On November 30th, 2017 BLFA gathered with partners and friends for our Community Toast to 2018 BLFA Grantees.
The 2018 Grant Recipients are:
Lilongwe Medical Relief Trust Fund and UNC Project-Malawi
Collaboration between ICCARE and the SHED Foundation
St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor
Our 2-year grants will help expand the reach of those diagnosing, treating, and providing social support to African children affected by Burkitt lymphoma in three areas of sub-Saharan Africa: the Mara and Mwanza regions of Tanzania; Gulu, Uganda; and Lilongwe, Malawi.
Burkitt lymphoma is the most common pediatric cancer in this low-resource part of the world.
BL is also one of the most aggressive human cancers. Dr. Ruth Wang’ondu, a member of our Board of Directors, emphasizes the needs of these children in this video statement:
Thanks to the generosity of those in attendance we were able to raise over $12,000 that evening to continue to support this important and life saving work. Additionally, an anonymous donor has pledged a $50,000 dollar for dollar match for these contributions and any gift received before the end of 2017 .
Join with us in providing these affected children with an opportunity to lead healthy and productive lives.
